Frisky
Názov výstavy „Frisky“ – v preklade hravý, šantivý, roztopašný – vo svojom princípe odzrkadľuje celkový charakter malieb Petra Cábockého. Autorov vizuálny jazyk tvoria bodky, čiarky či náhodné tvary, ktoré sa napriek svojim geometrizujúcim formám vedome vyhýbajú čistote modernistickej abstrakcie. Práve táto nedokonalosť umožňuje zamyslieť sa nad procesom tvorby, ktorý je častokrát dôležitejší než výsledný význam diel.
Cábocky k maľbe pristupuje ako alchymista a zvedavý experimentátor. Vníma ju ako premenlivý a živý proces plný zmien, v ktorom je intuícia hlavným protagonistom. Hoci východiskový impulz jednotlivých diel častokrát pramení v digitálnej či analógovej predlohe, finálny výsledok je neraz nepredvídateľný.
Maloformátové maľby spája akási jemná pochybnosť, ktorá otvára horizont pre voľné interpretácie. Diela nekladú dôraz na jednoznačné čítanie, ani na ťažiskové spoločenské témy; skôr smerujú k introspekcii autora, v ktorej samotné vizuálne formy vytvárajú jedinečnú ikonografiu.
Svojou vizualitou a štýlom sa tvorba Petra Cábockého pohybuje v rovine súčasnej abstraktnej maľby, ktorá minimalizuje – redukuje významy do jednoduchších foriem. Táto redukcia však nevedie k strohosti, ale k hravej a citlivej vizualite, ktorá pracuje s imagináciou diváka. Nedokonalé geometrické a abstraktné prvky sa tak stávajú stavebnými jednotkami umelcovho (vnútorného) maliarskeho sveta. Divák je tak pozvaný vstúpiť do prostredia, v ktorom sa samotný maliarsky a myšlienkový proces stáva nositeľom významu. Diela prezentované na výstave predstavujú akúsi tichú retrospektívu staršej tvorby, v ktorej možno pozorovať Cábockého vývojovú líniu.
Peter Cábocky je absolventom Chelsea College of Art and Design v Londýne a Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology v Dubline. Absolvoval množstvo rezidenčných pobytov v rámci Európy a vystavoval v Írsku, vo Veľkej Británii, Nemecku, Českej republike a na Slovensku. Žije a pracuje v Košiciach.
Frisky
The title of the exhibition, Frisky — translated as playful, mischievous — reflects the overall character of Peter Cábocky´s paintings. The artist visual language consists of dots, dashes and random shapes, which, despite their geometrizing forms, consciously avoid the purity of modernist abstraction. It is precisely this imperfection that allows us to reflect on the process of creation, which is often more important than the final meaning of the works.
Cábocky approaches painting as an alchemist and curious experimenter. He perceives it as a variable and living process full of changes, in which intuition is the main protagonist. Although the initial impulse of individual works often stems from a digital or analog original, the final result is often unpredictable.
Small-format paintings are united by an understated doubt that opens the horizon for free interpretation.
The works do not emphasize a clear reading, nor do they focus on central social themes; rather, they are directed towards the artist introspection, in which visual forms themselves create a unique iconography. In style and sensibility, Cábocky´s work moves within the plane of contemporary abstract painting — one that reduces meanings to simpler forms. Yet this reduction does not lead to austerity, but to a playful and sensitive visuality that works with the viewer imagination. Imperfect geometric and abstract elements become the building blocks of the artist inner pictorial world, and the viewer is invited to enter an environment in which the painting and thought process itself becomes the bearer of meaning.
The works presented at the exhibition represent a collection of older work in combination with newer pieces in which Cábocky´s developmental line can be observed.
Peter Cábocky is a graduate of Chelsea College of Art and Design in London and Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Dublin, Ireland. He has taken part in numerous residencies across Europe and has exhibited in Ireland, the UK, Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He lives and works in Košice, Slovakia.
